Week in Prayer
(Text only version)
Thursday, July 29, 2010
O
Holy One, as we gather together in
community we recognize and celebrate your presence among us. We celebrate the blessings and love that
surrounds us and the friendship and support that is extended in your name. We are deeply blessed, and to you alone we
offer our praise and humble gratitude.
From the very beginning you have called us beloved
and invited us into your presence. You
have shown us the way of justice and compassion, caring and nurturing and by
the grace of your spirit we experience your goodness, your peace and your love
in countless ways.
In your presence we now bring to you the people,
places and situations that are heavy on our hearts and pray that your presence
will bring peace and light.
We remember those who are missing after heavy rains
caused a landslide which has flattened part of a village in Sichuan, Southern China. As the flooding continues to cause chaos,
with 30,000 people trapped and explosive chemicals washed into a major river,
we pray for all who are working on rescue teams and for those who are trapped.
May all who are affected by this tragedy
feel your presence.
We remember the people and wildlife that have been deeply
affected by the pipeline malfunction which has caused an oil spill of more than
800,000 gallons (3m liters) of oil that has contaminated the Kalamazoo River in
Michigan in the U.S.A.
May all who are touched by this tragedy feel
your presence.
We remember the people of Pakistan as they
recover from the country’s worst-ever air disaster where an Airbus crashed as
it was about to land in the capital Islamabad, killing all 152 people on board.
May all who are touched by this tragedy feel
your presence.
We remember the people of Afghanistan
where a bus travelling on a highway in Nimroz province, hit a roadside bomb,
killing and injuring many people.
May all who are touched by this tragedy feel
your presence.
Creator of all, your works are gracious and
loving, your intentions caring and just.
Help us to live as we ought to live, and to walk in the light of the new
day that Christ Jesus has brought to us.
May we all feel your presence and pass it on to others.
Amen.
